Lee Smolin, in his book “The Trouble with Physics” [Houghton Mifflin, 2006], argues against the obsession that most physicists, academic researchers, and scientific facilities have with string theory. The good news: The Trouble With Physics is a good book. There's been lots of excitement in the past year or so over the possibility that physicists will soon develop a real-life version of Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. In 2006 we also praised Mr Smolin's book "The Trouble with Physics”, describing it as a pleasurable account of "how science is really done". Unfortunately, it's also three books. It's time for a major revolution in scientific thought.
